Terms of use

A guide, not instructions

Every Munro shows facts about the Munros, computer weather model output and, for a few peaks, a line built from mapped paths. It is a starting point for your own planning. It does not tell you a route is safe, open, passable or suitable for you.

Safety

Mountain conditions change fast. Carry a map and compass and know how to use them. Check the Mountain Weather Information Service forecast before you go and, in winter, the Scottish Avalanche Information Service. Tell someone your plan. In an emergency in the UK, call 999 and ask for the police, then mountain rescue.

Routes and numbers

Route lines are built automatically from OpenStreetMap paths. Distances, ascent and estimated times are computed from that line and from Copernicus elevation data. Paths on the map may be eroded, rerouted, missing or wrongly mapped, and computed times leave out rests, weather, ground and the way down. Weather figures are raw model output for a point and can be badly wrong on a summit.

No liability for use of the routes or data

You use the routes, figures and forecasts on this site at your own risk. As far as the law allows, Every Munro and its operator accept no liability for loss, injury or damage arising from relying on them. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or anything else that cannot be limited under UK law.

Access and land

Scotland has a right of responsible access under the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003. Read the Scottish Outdoor Access Code, follow local signs, and park only where it is allowed.

Data licences

The data shown here belongs to others and is used under open licences: the Database of British and Irish Hills (CC BY 4.0), OpenStreetMap (ODbL), EOX Sentinel-2 cloudless 2016 (CC BY 4.0), Copernicus elevation data, Open-Meteo elevation data and MET Norway forecasts (CC BY 4.0). Full details and links are on the credits page. If you reuse any of it, follow the original licence, not these terms.

Accounts

An account is free and is only for keeping your tick list. While Every Munro is a draft it is stored in your browser, so clearing your browser data deletes it and we cannot recover it. You can delete your account at any time from the Your Munros page. Your tick list is a record you keep for yourself; it does not certify that you climbed a hill.

Changes

Pages, features and these terms may change. These terms are governed by the law of Scotland.
